About Emma
My Journey
Emma Smith Trickett is a PACFA-registered Psychotherapist and Creative Arts Therapist based in Launceston, Tasmania. With a Master's qualification in Art Therapy, she offers a compassionate, evidence-based approach to mental health, specialising in trauma, relationships, and emotional wellbeing.
Her practice integrates talk-based counselling with creative modalities such as drawing, painting, clay work, and sand tray, providing a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their experiences and foster healing. Emma works with children, teenagers, and adults, including neurodivergent individuals, offering a neuroaffirming and trauma-informed approach tailored to each person's needs.
Emma also provides couples counselling, drawing on advanced training and mentorship from Johannes Kelder of the Hobart Marriage Clinic. She supports couples in navigating communication challenges, rebuilding trust, and deepening their connection.
Alongside her clinical work, Emma contributes to the field as an Academic Teacher in the Master’s program at The MIECAT Institute, where she supervises and mentors emerging therapists.
Emma is currently working at the LGH on the paediatric ward, supporting young people with acute mental health conditions and serious illness. Emma is also passionate about supporting teens and adults with eating disorders.
Through Really Good Therapy, Emma is dedicated to helping individuals and couples find clarity, connection, and emotional balance through personalised, creative therapeutic experiences.
My Philosophy
Relationships Matter
Therapy is most effective when it feels safe and respectful. I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship – one where clients feel comfortable enough to be real, explore, and reflect at their own pace.
Expression takes many forms
Not everyone finds it easy to express themselves through words alone. I integrate creative processes like art-making, symbol work, and storytelling to support expression and deepen insight when words aren’t enough.
Every person is the expert in their own life
I bring my knowledge and experience – but always honour the wisdom, culture, and values each person brings with them. My work is trauma-informed, neuroaffirming, and attentive to the broader systems people are part of.
